I must say this has been a busy week or this post would have come sooner. I got to spend last weekend in Elgin IL with some great friends. I was there for my honorary nephew's 6th birthday and for a girls weekend. It just so happened I got to spend Saturday at Elgin's Public Works Day. The city works building opens up for the public. They have great activities for kids and family to watch and learn. I must say that my friend's 4 children had a great time (partly because of all the sugar they were given). The kids got to climb in and out of fire trucks, snow plows, tractors and other large construction equipment. They had the kiddie train out for kids to have a ride and the forestry department had a rope and pulley system set up for kids to "climb" a tree. It was great to see all the workers having fun with the kids. Here are a couple of pics of the day.
As you can see lots of fun. Sorry won't show the kids' faces. Afterward we had the party complete with a pinata and more sugar! Then we had our girls' night out....aka dinner and a movie. It was a fun time with friends.
As for me.....I have a week left of work before summer break. I am looking forward to it. Now for those of you who think teachers have a plush job and don't deserve their summers off.....well, I can honestly say that the teachers I work with do. Until I was in this job I had no idea how hard teachers work or all the extra things that they dealt with on a daily basis. Now that I have this knowledge, I know how much this break is needed. So, to all you teachers out there.....have a great summer and relax fall will be here before you know it.

While I wait.....
Well, since my last post things have been less dramatic. Which is great! I had an nice uneventful spring break and now only have 4 weeks left of work until summer break. Yes, I am super lucky to have a teacher's schedule and have most of my summer off. As for what I did over spring break....I saw 2 movies (Soul Surfer and Rio). I loved Soul Surfer (made me miss Hawaii)......very inspirational movie based on a girl named Bethany Hamilton. She lost her arm while surfing when she was 13! She was back in the ocean surfing again less than a month later and now is a pro surfer. Rio was totally cute and my nephew and niece loved it. The rest of the time I hung out at home because my basement floor was getting tiled.
Now I will say, tile is a little cold on the feet, so I need to get a rug...but doesn't it look awesome! I am pretty excited that it is done and there will be a nice open space for a little one to play in.
I also have been knitting. Here are a couple projects recently finished.
This is a little sweater I made for a friend/co-worker's little boy.
Some up close views of the cable pattern all over the sweater (trust me it took a lot of time to get this one done).
Some fun knee high socks for my good friend Cole. These were actually a lot easier to make than they look. I finished the last sock the day after the picture was taken. Right now I am working on a pair of socks for a co-worker who is retiring. She is amazing and has taught me so much about Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am really going to miss her next school year.
